Mission and Vision

ABOUT

The Association for Human Advancement and Development was founded in 1995 and approved under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Service code in May 1997 as an Oregon private non-profit corporation. We are based in Portland, Oregon and have focused on projects that operate in the Pacific Northwest.

MISSION STATEMENT

AHAD’s mission is to conduct activities in the areas of educational achievement, social and economic development, community service and conflict resolution and mediation (consultation), and any other activities intended to promote the concept of the oneness of humankind. Implicit in these activities is the dynamic coherence of the spiritual and practical requirement of life and the acceptance of the interdependence of the material and the spiritual elements in the struggle for sustainable development and human advancement. Underlying all of AHAD’s activities is the intention to promote the oneness of mankind.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

  • Sponsorship of conferences, workshops, seminars, talks, and educational programs
  • Publication of bulletins, magazines, newsletters, articles and topical papers which address the above mentioned areas
  • Sponsorship of programs and entrepreneurial endeavors
  • Creation of community-based social and economic development opportunities for neighborhoods and community residents
  • Other topics and support related to social justice, health, and human services

  • Our projects spring from the aspirations of participating communities and organizations.
  • We consider the existing capacities of the participating communities and organizations and assist in helping to develop their capacities
  • We concentrate on unlocking human potential through educational processes
  • We seek greater degrees of self-reliance and interdependency
  • We promote the systematic exchange of ideas and opinions
  • We recognize the relationship between individuals and society and work to promote the development of both the individual and the community
  • We utilize the fruits of advanced science and technology and operate in the accordance with the highest standards of human and cultural values and wisdom
  • We support the best interests of society and not the vested interests of a few individuals or groups
  • We contribute to the strengthening of unity and harmony and we avoid relationships with divisive forces or movements
  • We promote cooperation and mutual assistance and do not engender a competitive spirit
